How to play MapZa

Turn a city name into a place on the globe. A good guess begins with a continent and gets better as you narrow it down.

1. Choose a difficulty. Armchair Tourist starts with more familiar places; Explorer, Trailblazer and Pioneer broaden the challenge.
2. Read the location. The prompt includes the city, region and country. Use those clues to orient yourself.
3. Explore the globe. Drag to move it and zoom in when you have found the right part of the world. Click or tap to place your pin; move it until you are ready.
4. Lock your guess. Use the button or double-click your chosen spot. If confidence wagering is enabled, choose your confidence before confirming.
5. Compare the pins. The result shows the real location, your distance and your points. Continue through all six Daily rounds.

Daily, practice or special event?

The official Daily is one chance at that day’s challenge. Practice generates a new set and is useful for learning without using your Daily attempt. A shared practice link recreates exactly the same ordered cities. Special events have their own dates, number of rounds and distance scale.

A clue when you need one

Every round offers a clue describing the distance from the target to a nearby capital city. Using it reduces that round’s available points by 10%. You can still make a strong guess.

Should I turn on confidence wagering?

It is optional and selected before the first target is revealed. Confidence runs from 0 to 10. Inside the round’s half-life distance it can increase points by up to 20%; outside it, it can reduce them by up to 20%. At zero confidence there is no change. See the scoring examples.
